Be scam-aware

We’ve recently been made aware of a new scam targeting our customers, and we want to make sure you’re informed and stay safe.

What’s happening?
Some of our customers have received phone calls from individuals claiming to be solicitors. These callers are asking for proof of ID, proof of address, and documents related to damp and mould investigations. When asked how they got the customer’s details, the company claimed they were provided by “your landlords” but couldn’t specify who.

The calls are coming from the number 07557851999, but scammers often use fake or withheld numbers to hide their identity.

How to stay safe
We want to remind you that our colleagues will always introduce themselves properly and show their ID badges before entering your home. Here are some top tips to help you spot and avoid scams:

  1. Always ask for ID
If someone arrives at your door claiming to work for us or on our behalf, always ask to see their ID badge. Our staff and contractors will always carry one.
  2. Check the details
Make sure the name, job title, and company on the badge match what they’ve told you. The photo on the badge should also match the person standing in front of you.
  3. Be cautious of unexpected calls
If someone calls you unexpectedly, especially if they’re asking for personal details or documents, be cautious. Never share sensitive information over the phone unless you’re 100% sure who you’re speaking to.
  4. Verify the caller
If you’re unsure whether a caller is genuine, hang up the phone and call us directly on 0300 555 6666.
  5. Don’t let anyone in without checking
Never let someone into your home unless you’re completely sure who they are and why they’re there. If you’re unsure, contact us immediately.

What to do if you’re targeted
If you receive a suspicious call or visit, here’s what you should do:

  • Don’t share any personal information.
  • End the call or ask the visitor to leave.
  • Contact us directly to report the incident.
  • Report the scam to Action Fraud (0300 123 2040) or your local police if you feel threatened.
