The second cost of living payment, worth £300, is arriving this month to help people manage mounting bills.

The DWP has announced that households on means-tested benefits, such as universal credit, will receive £300 directly by 19 November, without the need to make a claim.

If you are eligible, the payment will be sent out automatically and the same way you receive your existing benefits – so you do not need to apply or do anything to receive it.

The payments are tax-free, do not contribute towards the benefit cap, and do not impact on existing benefits.

A further payment is due to be made next spring, bringing the total to £900.

Who is eligible?

You will receive the payment if you were on the following benefits anytime between 18 August 2023 and 17 September 2023:

• Universal credit
• Pension credit
• Income-based jobseeker’s allowance
• Income-related employment and support allowance
• Income support
• Working tax credit
• Child tax credit

If you have not received your second cost of living payment by 19 November, and believe you are eligible, you can report a missed payment here.
