Colleagues at whg are among the first 100,000 people globally to be certified as Carbon Literate.

The UN-recognised charity, The Carbon Literacy Trust, has announced that it has certified no fewer than 100,000 people as Carbon Literate across seven continents. whg has contributed to that figure, with 88 colleagues gaining the accreditation.

whg first engaged with Carbon Literacy when it developed an accredited training programme for colleagues. So far more than 10% of colleagues have completed the bespoke course becoming sustainability champions and making pledges that align with the organisation’s sustainability agenda.

The training has been instrumental in ensuring everyone has the same base level of understanding about climate change and how they can do their bit within their unique job roles to not only support but accelerate wider sustainability goals.

Jo Shields said: “Carbon Literacy training has created a culture in which colleagues are motivated to take significant action to reduce carbon emissions and talk with confidence and pride about the work they’re doing, not only among colleagues and stakeholders but with family and friends.

“Our approach continues to be used as an example of best practice across the sector and beyond with the business gaining the Bronze accredited carbon literate award for its commitment to this agenda

“When the Carbon Literacy Project reaches one million certified learners in 2030, we’ll be beyond proud to say that our colleagues belonged to the first 100,000 Carbon Literate pioneers taking action to achieve a zero-carbon future, and we’re determined to continue our efforts to help achieve this goal.”
