Long term investor and placeshaper whg has been named one of the country’s biggest housing association builders in a new survey out this week.

The Midlands’ based social landlord was ranked 34th in Inside Housing’s annual list of the top 50 developing peers for 2023/24.

During the period whg built 545 homes of which 381 were for affordable rent, 121 were for shared ownership and 43 were for market sale.

At its highest point  whg was working on 28 sites with 988 homes in production.

In 2023/24 whg also spent more than £65m on improvements to existing homes including upgrades to heating systems, new kitchens and bathrooms.

Rebecca Bennett Casserly, Corporate Director of Development, said: “The last year has been a challenging time for the construction and housing industries, and indeed sector wide, so we are thrilled to have remained on track with our development programme, building hundreds of new homes and securing a healthy level of shared ownership sales.

“Our development programme is supporting jobs and helping to boost productivity by ensuring every region has the homes it needs to grow. This year alone we generated more than £44m in social value. We are proud of our work and ahead of the General Election are calling on a long-term plan for housing to fix the housing crisis.

“Of course, none of this would have been possible without the support of our partners and my thanks go to them for working with us to assemble sites and construct high quality, energy efficient  homes for people across the Midlands.”
